Technical Aspect: The work was created on a poplar wood support: all workmanship is exclusively manual. The support was then impannato (cencio), chalked and sanded. Finally, I prepared the bolus and covered the support with pure gold leaves (23 kt). The painting was obtained using pigments and egg tempera. Artistic Aspect: This icon is a reproduction of the work by Lippo Memmi Madonna with Child (around 1350, Sienese school) kept in the Gemàldegallerie Museum in Berlin. I made it following the antique techniques described by Cennino Cennini, in his "Libro dell'Arte" . What inspires all the icons I reproduce is the desire to relive, with wisdom and humanity, what the artists of the Gothic-Renaissance period felt when they created their works, for devotion or on commission. In Christian iconography, starting around the end of the 13th century, the term 'In Maestà' is used to identify the large panels depicting the Madonna enthroned with the Child on her lap surrounded by angels. With my reproduction I want to feel and convey all the greatness that comes from having recreated this work, step by step, in detail.

I started out as a restorer of paintings, but over the years I have worked as a restorer (employee) for companies involved in the restoration of state-protected property: the restorations I have participated in have concerned various sectors such as stone, painting canvas, painting panel (polychrome wood), safety work on state cultural property damaged by the earthquake, wood, decoration of surfaces and archaeological sites. Each of my experiences is demonstrable with references and I can send CVs and references on request. The years spent restoring works of art in Italy and abroad were fantastic for me, but, at a certain point, I felt the need for more time, more calm, to savour art. I therefore resumed an old passion of mine: the reproduction of sacred icons from the Renaissance period, Sienese school.
