About The Artwork

This bright and bold painting is based on the view outside my window right now. We look out over the largest meadow in the UK (Portholme) in Cambridgeshire and due to all the dry weather it is currently being cut down to make the most wonderful hay. The 260 acre meadow forms a flood plain for the Great Ouse. It is auctioned off each year to a handful of farmers who turn up with all manner of tractors and trailers to create hay bales of different shapes and sizes. On a Summers evening it is a wonderful site as the tractors work in the heat, closely followed by gulls and red kites looking for a bite to eat. The painting is very colourful and has been painted using bold brush strokes in an impressionistic style.
