ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The triptych, 'Fading man number 1', are a set of original paintings that need to be hung together as seen in the picture. Theme and symbolic meaning of the work: The triptych, 'Fading man number 1', is a set of original paintings that deal with the expression of 'man' through symbolic colour and shape. In much of the work I produce, man and woman is part of an ongoing theme. ‘Man’ is represented by a line and if presented in a painting 'Woman' is represented by a square. Because the form content in these paintings is minimalist, colour becomes paramount to the art works power and meaning. The use of colour is used to evoke certain feelings and atmospheres and inspiration comes from a life long interest with minimalist art, symbolism and colour theory. Technical: The texture of the paintings is slightly revealing of subtle brush strokes but the surface also appears flat depending on the lighting conditions. Hard-edge lines, which are integral to the art works character, have been immaculately executed using acrylic on paper. One of the reasons paper has been chosen to execute the painting, is because the fragility of paper can be seen to represent the condition of human non-permanence. * The paper art works are mounted and pressed to 3 mm wooden board so they are completely flat and protected by shatter proof 'ultra-clear' acrylic glazing * Specification: Art work: Original painting Medium: Acrylic paint on heavy weight paper Art movement influences: Minimalism and Colour-field Characteristics: Hard-edge, flat colour with with very subtle surface textures. Painting size: 98 x 72 x 0.1 cm Frame size external edge: 104 x 76 x 1.5 cm Frame: Exhibition quality, custom built wooden frame / black finish / acrylic glazing . My interest in art started at an early age. I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do. The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style. Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist. The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.
