'Man and woman in a landscape' is a painting where the square represents a woman and the line represents the man. The colours used are to evoke certain feelings or mood. The lilac sky could be referring to spirituality, the blue square coldness and the green line nature. The black ground maybe a deep hole or abyss. Viewers may sense from this painting feelings of detachment and never really knowing the other. The medium of paper is chosen for it's fragility, representing human non-permanence or being easily broken. The style is minimal and abstract in order to reduce the work to its purity of meaning. I paint two versions of these paintings as version 1 is part of the ‘Woman and Man’ series. This is version 2 of 'Man and woman in a landscape with their shadows'. Each painting is an original and slightly different to other versions so that a collectors purchase is always unique. This artwork is larger than version 1 and has subtle differences in the brush stroke texture. Art work: Original painting Medium: Acrylic paint on heavy weight paper Art movement influences: Minimalism and Colour-field Characteristics: Hard-edge, flat colour with with very subtle brush-stroke textures. Painting size: 71.5 x 53.5 x 0.1 cm Frame size to outside edge: 77.5 x 59.5 x 2.5 cm Frame: Wooden frame / black finish / no glass Hanging hardware: Supplied but not attached to frame in case different hanging methods are required by collector. My interest in art started at an early age. I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do. The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style. Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist. The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.
