Painting: Oil on Canvas.
THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM
The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona
Davis Lisboa, "Marcel Broodthaers #3", 2016, oil on canvas
What/who inspired the work?
The protagonist of the paintings is the Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers (1924–1976). He produced large-scale environmental pieces that reworked the very notion of the museum: "Musée d'Art Moderne, Départment des Aigles (1968). And I was inspired too by the German artist Gerard Richter who has produced unforgettable abstract as well as photorealistic paintings.
What do you hope its viewers will feel/think?
I hope the viewers to see all of us in the same painting: Broodthaers, Richter and me.
Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style?
I chose the medium because oil painting is still a challenge for me. Paint photorealistic style allows me to create a dialogue between painting, photography, mass media and history.
