ABOUT THE ARTWORK
i have been painting portraits of Men and Men with Beards for quite a while.They started from my fascination with Australia bushrangers and their many stories and more broadly,were they victims or heroes.The so called dehumanising of people in society is a constant concern for me, as people are judged by others by rules and assumption and gathered knowledge that may not be truths. Beards are a symbol, of covered voices, men unable to speak for whatever reason. Recently I have given these figures a cat to cuddle, a nurturing gesture. Does this make one view the person differently? How often do we reevaluate our store of knowledge, prejudice,opinion and belief system .
