This individual, bold, colourful depiction of a British Springtime was painted in May 2019. 'May Blossom' is a celebration of the visual spectacle that is all around at this time of the year. I used my memory to create the wonderful visual joy and fizz of white blossom in the North Yorkshire hedgerows in Spring. I grew up in North Yorkshire and it has a very special place in my heart and imagination. The English hedgerows are sublime at this time of year and put on a real show for the eager spectator. The painting was a joy to create and my happiness is reflected in the finished piece. I hope the viewer gets an atmosphere of calm, happiness and peace within when viewing the piece. With it's lovely vibrant use of colours it can sit on any wall and in a number of diverse interiors. There is no need to frame, as the sides of the piece are embellished and painted with the blossom, forming part of the completed painting and this also gives the piece a sculptural presence. Signed on the front. I have used high quality oil paints and varnishes on sustainable sourced wood, with an ECO Green alternative to traditional turps.

I draw my inspiration from the constant possibilities of painting and the challenge of its unpredictable nature in conveying a subject. I am most interested in the process of painting and the expression it provides, translating a depth of feeling that is both personal but also shared with the viewer. Psychotherapy has directly influenced recent work and renewed my interest in abstract expressionism with the freedom of colour, line and allowing the subconscious and memory to guide my work. My current work explores the raw emotions I have experienced through personal challenges including the corrosive effects of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), infertility and a recent incurable auto-immune disease diagnosis. Whilst these experiences are highly personal, I believe that by exploring those emotions in my work I am creating a voice where one might normally be at risk of being suppressed and hidden.
