Paweł Swanski is an artist, a painter whose artistic activities are not limited to paintings on canvas and paper only. His work includes also large-format murals which are his commissioned speciality. Artistic, commercial and crafts projects of his own, on which he works in his studio, further reflect his skill set as a designer, craftsman and contemporary artisan. His work takes him international with individual and collective exhibitions. His works and other individual projects have been showcased and supported in Poland by Kordegarda, Warsaw, CSW, DESA, as well in Germany, Spain, Switzerland and in the USA. From various locations such as Los Angeles, Toronto, Taiwan, Tokyo, Berlin, Bristol and Warsaw his murals can be seen in the streets and in private residences. He draws from both – his inner inspiration and philosophy his creative muse: that man as the locus point has a unique perspective of his surrounding environment. Undermining this unique position of the individual in the ecosystem, as a part of it, as well as weakening contact with their “world”, is one of the topics of the presented study. The Artist has over the years continued to project this theme in variations. The project under the working title “The Thicket” reflect man who usurps the role of the owner who oversees the world, as well as nature, which lives with an independent rhythm and absorbs and delivers life every day. “The Thicket” is the place where the incessant cycle of birth and end of life happens. The Artist quotes the Old Testament verse: Be productive and multiply so that you populate the earth and subdue it, and undermining the existing interpretation, adds: Something went wrong… Over time, Paweł Swanski’s style and manner of artistic expression has become more and more abstract. Known mainly for his cartoon-like line, associated with the woodcuts, now allows himself to have a broader form of expression. Watercolours, inspired by the Japanese ink painting school Sumi-e, has become increasingly prominent in his art, along with a less contoured attitude on canvas.
