My inspiration came from very old black & white photographs about 150 years old
I then altered and added various elements to make it a more balanced composition
I found the whole exercise fascinating that I was able look at a split second in time from all that way back in time
The men, the animals, the ships, are exactly as they were 150 years ago
Naturally with this amount of detail, it takes, time, patience and skill. Look at the neck harness of the mule. You can see the chains, the buckles everything. You'll also see the brake lever on the mule's cart if you look very carefully. No brake pads in those days, just hessian rubbing against the axle and the voice of the driver shouting "Whoaa !"
This is before the coming of aircraft, motor cars, antibiotics What a different world we live in these days Imagine being one of those "porters" waiting to be given a few hours work, so they could put food on the table for their family. What a nightmare it must have been for them
I fully intend to produce more work of this nature. I'll be looking for suitable photographs to use. It's a job to find a really good composition, as most photos from that era are family portraits with very rigid poses, that are too contrived to be of wide interest but if you've any ideas, do please let me know by email go2ssff@gmail.com

Kind regards and do please leave a comment - Chris

I was born in the very beautiful town called Llandudno in North Wales. It's just across the Conway River were stands a huge 1,000 year old Norman Castle. The scenery is spectacular to say the least I grew up in Liverpool and worked there in engineering as a teenager and young man. I then moved to The Wirral and lived there for over ten years About 16 years ago I bought an incredible apartment here in Thailand and started a family. I now have two children aged nine and eleven. We have a big UK style bar restaurant here where everyone goes to socialise. There's lots of guys who work in the oil and gas industry. They're clever, witty and sociable. This is a very laid back fun lifestyle. Oh, and there's quite a few ex military guys. Oh and of course one or two gangsters. And that's just the expats. I'm retired, so I have lots of spare time, but now I've started painting again and that's been a labour of love. I don't take myself too seriously, and like to think I've a good sense of humour, and I hope that's reflected in my paintings. I do hope you like them, and then want to buy them ! Do leave a comment please. Something like "brilliant or superb" .... I'll be very happy with that !
