About The Artwork
Visiting friends in my old stomping grounds in New Boston, NH. An early morning walk in search of beauty in the woods. I crawled on my belly under muddy brush to get this secret scene of mist on the water amid beaver bridges. I take notes on the scene and record the color since I'm a lousy photographer and use the reference for geographical features.I live in Colorado where the sun always shines.I crave mist and fog, hence my yearly visits to New England where I grew up.Painting depth within mist as I see it helps me capture some aspects of nature's peaceful beauty. People read my work on many different levels, but the realistic elaborate detail done in studio, adds to the "felt" experience of being there.I studied classical fine art figure painting and sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and it informs my landscapes to this day.

I was born in Quebec, Canada and have been drawing since childhood. I attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while working full time, and received several awards and prizes there. I moved to Colorado twenty-five years ago to be closer to the woods, mountains, and rivers. My plein air works tend to be rendered in pastel; my studio work, in oils. My subject matter references include sketching in the field, taking notes on color, and photographing what I see. I find that my shortcomings as a photographer are a benefit to me as a painter as they leave more room for embellishment and imagination.
