About The Artwork
This was inspired by a response to the graphic nature of this butterfly, and its bold black, white, red and yellow keynotes. Although a real specimen, its coloring seems to almost make it unreal, as if its was designed as a logo or somehow manufactured. After applying multiple layers, and painting the butterfly very realistically, its time to risk the envelope and paint outside the lines, pushing the movement and expression of the paint. Again, another experiment in pushing realism and pulling representation somewhere else.
