I've long been fascinated by the moon, the way it changes and stays the same, always seeming to be just out of reach. Equally I love painting the sky and embracing the subtle challenges of painting darkness and I have brought all three things together in a playful, modular series of paintings. Each is offered individually but they can be combined in many ways.

This delicate painting is the second in the series and is one of the more closely observed. The moon is full and largely unobscured, but it is softened by invisible clouds high in the atmosphere. Other subtle clouds break up the deep, multi-facetted blue with one of my favourite colours, the soft and wonderful Potter's Pink.

The painting is on heavy canvas and made solely with highest grade oil paints. It is framed in a slim and simple aluminium, white, tray-style frame with a minimal shadow gap.

Alan is an artist based in Surrey. From his studio in Staines-upon-Thames, he paints landscapes, investigates whatever catches his attention and is currently prototyping some top secret & beautiful things. He trained at Farnham and has shown in many open and group shows throughout London and the South East, has had one major solo show and has been artist in residence for a manor house in Buckinghamshire. His work is in many private collections. “A high proportion of my work is the local landscape. Initially this was nothing but a combination of convenience and a long term fascination with the depiction of space, but as I have dug deeper it has begun to act as a proxy for more personal ideas.”
