Casein, Clay, Plaster on Heavy Belgian Linen, with 5 coats uv spray The tsunami, flooding and meltdown of 3 nuclear reactors was tragic beyond words. The world was and remains saddened by this event, for the loss of life and the ongoing toxic leaking of nuclear material. The beauty and resilience of the Japanese people inspire me, as well as the art from Japan which artists around the world love. I had seen a block print in a museum recently from which I borrowed the pose--unfortunately the artist's name is lost to me. It is with sadness and hope that art can address subjects of great pain.

A restlessness and questioning of life's meaning is the catalyst driving my painting career. Exploring ways a painting might impart beauty, complexity, transcendence, along with experimentation in oils, water media, clays, plaster...it sometimes seems endless-- though I'm feeling a synthesis of late. Vacillating between abstraction and figuration, I'm realizing once more that figures and abstraction walk hand in hand. Contact: freyahite@protonmail.com
