About The Artwork

(Please Note: Watermarked digital signature, bottom right, will be removed on actual prints and is NOT on original) First in this series of works, 'Mosques, Minarets and Domes' is a commemoration and a reflection of my own cultural and religious identity. The Mosque; a very powerful and universal symbol in Islamic tradition is primarily a place of worship. It is also a place for learning, for meetings, for gatherings, for helping and supporting the needy; in general, for various other means of spiritual growth, support, development and so on. It is a true source of inspiration not just for its purpose (as well as its use) but for its exquisite design and architectural features that dominate various skylines across the world. This series of work is a celebration of these traditional features. Using strong geometric and free-flowing line to form various shapes and pattern as well as the use of strong bold and vivid colours, I hope to evoke a sense of vibrancy, well-being, contentment and tranquillity; feelings that are reminiscent of my own Islamic and cultural heritage.

A Primary school teacher by profession for 25 years; (currently working with Special Educational Needs children), I live and work in the city of Bradford (West Yorkshire), UK...………….. My work is simply about the expression and exploration of various types of line to create a multitude and range of Shapes and Pattern. This is a predominant feature of my work. Defining myself essentially as an Abstract artist, I work mainly with Acrylic paint (and mixed media on occasions). I love the freedom to express and create almost in an intuitive and instinctive manner depicting a range of styles from strong, bold geometric shapes to free-flowing, cursive and floral pattern. Sometimes I will use a subject matter or a particular theme depending on the collection. However, the main and dominant feature in my work is, and will always remain, the strong array of shapes, pattern and colour that seem to dominate and essentially, take 'centre stage.'
