Portrait in Acrylic of Meryl the artist's wife. Her passion for photographing flowers on her instagram account and her past as a florist comes thru and meaningful here.I wanted a ceramic effect for the flowers.Something polished that would survive the passage of time. My film designer background came into play here as I can replicate thee original item but without using original materials. To replicate the flowers I took silk flowers which I purchased online and dipped them into a solution of Plaster of Paris and let them dry. After drying, I spray painted them individually and then varnished them with high gloss for protection which also accomplished the ceramic look.
I always like patterns and shapes and these are represented in the wallpaper and her blouse to add balance to the composition and interest.
The portrait and frame exudes character and story with it’s unique look, feel and attention to dimensional detail. It is a assemblage of the the artist finding and making objects with the deeper understanding of appreciating the immersive experience. The paintings is beautifully rendered with a hint of whimsy, eccentricity and quirkiness that sets them apart from anything else.
The Portraits encapsulate humor and yet intelligence that is painstakingly achieved.
