Murmuration Painting

As I was finishing this piece the word murmuration came to mind. There is a small section in the upper right with orange seed stitches that reminds me of a murmuration of birds. This feels relevant to me at this time in my life (currently Dec. 2022) as I work on communicating who I am and what I’m doing in this world. And unity - we are stronger together than on our own - I need to hear that, I need to know that. I also just did an art and mindfulness session I call Stardust, based on the idea that we are all made of stardust - we are all made of the same elements as stars. “Most of the elements of our bodies were formed in stars over the course of billions of years and multiple star lifetimes.” https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/are-we-really-made-of-stardust.html That is unity. Completely. We are all connected. What if we are all (humans) communicating like a murmuration of starlings? I’ve heard people say that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. So, maybe we are all moving in a murmuration and copying the movements of our seven neighbors. And to alter the direction of the flock we each can alter the direction of our thoughts and actions. To change the world we first must change ourself. If I consciously do things with love, then those closest to me - the people I interact with - will copy me and act with love. We each need to continue to decide to move with love every day. If I surround myself with people who are living with integrity and love the majority of the time, then that will keep me moving when I’m having a difficult time. A rising tide lifts all ships. We are in this (life) together.
