Based: Amsterdam / London Profession: Fine Artist Material specialization: Oil painting Repertoire: Architecture, Academic drawing, technical drawing. Historical oil painting techniques; Trompe l'oeil, Faux Imitation, 17 C Dutch Master's oil painting techniques. Subjects: Architecture, nature, environment, still life. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ BIOGRAPHY Marianne Hendriks shares her wonderment of nature in a painting practice highly informed by her background in architecture and design. With each distillation of a leaf into a simple abstraction, Marianne attempts to make sense of the world by categorically manipulating geometry and form. Her oil paintings possess a rhythmic quality, created by the repetition of pattern and texture, and seek out balance between realism and highly stylized expression. Marianne returned to the Netherlands after graduating with a BA in Architecture & Spatial Design with Honours at Central St. Martins, London, England. Her works have been exhibited in Amsterdam, New York, London, and Italy, including The Other Art Fair London and Brooklyn. Marianne's paintings have been featured in various publications, including Vogue Living NL, and her work was selected for special projects with Sheraton and Eden Roc Hotel. - Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and Vice President of Art Advisory at Saatchi Art. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SUBJECT Marianne Hendriks’s subject is nature, its design and construction. Marianne simplifies plants and leaves by deconstructing and redesigning their forms in order to balance structure and symmetry, and in doing this she creates optically hypnotic and beautiful effects. Her imagination is strongly influenced by her background in architecture and art history. The collection consists of portraits of plants and leaves which capture a mood and moment. The work is exploratory and experimental and driven by playfulness and curiosity. Trial and error is a fundamental part of the work, which creates both tension and balance in the image. APPROACH Marianne Hendriks aspires to achieve the highest quality and preservation of her pieces. She continues to study art history including traditional methods, equipment and pigments; and to educate herself in the old Dutch Masters’ techniques, including replicating masterpieces to better understand how they were created. She has a wide range of accomplishments and experiences in technical drawing, graphic design and art direction, production and management. CRAFTSMANSHIP Marianne Hendriks’s work is all designed and crafted in her own studio and wood workshop. She is involved in designing and building panels, canvasses, bespoke art tools, frames for the paintings, shipping crates, and in building storage and also presentation furniture. By maintaining control over all aspects of production, she ensures that each piece is of the highest possible quality. INFLUENCES Marianne Hendriks’s work is influenced by her travels in Asia, the movement of Japonism and the philosophy of Wabi Sabi. She has also been influenced by her studies and experience in architecture and design. Artists such as Georgia O’Keefe and Van Gogh are a great inspiration to the Botanicus Collection. Marianne grew up in Amsterdam and incorporates the painting techniques of 17th Century Dutch Masters in her work, producing work which - although very modern - has deep roots in art history. ACHIEVEMENTS Marianne Hendriks exhibits worldwide including in New York, London, Amsterdam, Portugal and Italy. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Vogue Living NL and Egoista Magazine, amongst others. Her work is part of several important collections including the Soho House collection. EDUCATION Marianne Hendriks graduated from St.Martins Foundation in Art & Design and a BA in Architecture and Spatial Design London. St. Martins is known for its work ethic, interdisciplinary approach and conceptual thinking in multidisciplinary studies, and technical exploration; this has heavily influenced Marianne's approach. Since graduating she has worked in diverse functions in the creative industries, whilst developing her own artistic vision and voice. She is presently studying at Atelier Wildschut in Amsterdam where she continues to further her expertise in the techniques of the Dutch Masters, as well as in the techniques of Tromp L’oeil and Faux Art. REPRESENTATIVES Marianne Hendriks is currently represented by over fifty art directors, consultants and gallerists worldwide. Her main representatives are Saatchi Art, The Amar Gallery and The Other Art Fair. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Netherlands - Amsterdam - +31 (0)6 410 23 678 - - - @mariannehendriksart

> Artist statement I am a Dutch artist, working predominantly in traditional oil painting techniques. I studied at St.Martins Foundation Year in Art and design in London, and completed my BA in Architecture also at St Martins. I have worked my whole career in the Arts Industry. My experience in the creative industrie is diverse. I started set building and costume designing and sewing for theatre and dance. I designed and built sets, and designed promotional artwork material and graphic artwork. I have worked with major brands including Nike, Starbucks, the Goodwood Revival, Soho House, Liberty and Uniqlo. I have worked in various media, including photography, virtual reality, set design, installations, and graphic design. Collaborations, production and management of teams is a fundamental part of the large projects.  My ambition has always been to be a professional artist. In 2017 I decided to continue my career in fine art solely. At the chore of my work are building and designs techniques. My main subject is nature and its narrative in our culture. I explore diverse visual representations and use a wide range of techniques in my work. My Dutch heritage and techniques of the great Dutch masters are fundamental in my work. Alongside my work I practice the Dutch painting techniques and have been formally trained by a master for four years in Amsterdam. My oil paintings possess a rhythmic quality, created by the repetition of pattern and texture, and seek out balance between realism and highly stylized expression. Quality and craftsmanship of the art work and materials are important in every element and presentation of the artwork. I consider preservation also important, all materials archival/ acid free as well as sustainable. In he studio I aim to be as sustainable as possible and no chemicals are used and no plastics in packaging and shipping. I work with clients all over the world. I exhibited in Amsterdam, London and New York. My work is featured in the artists section of Phaidon press & Art space, Residence Magazine in Vogue Living Magazine and mentioned in the New York Times’ Arts Section and in the London Time Out. I am twice winner of the Kate Bryan Art Prize & Soho House. I recently completed an intensive course in contemporary arts and philosophy and cultural history at the RCA / Royal Academy of Art London.
