My Sebastian. Bearing the signs of suffering.
Original acrylic painting on canvas.
A modern interpretation of the old theme of Saint Sebastian. He is commonly depicted in art and literature as a handsome youth tied to a post or tree pierced by arrows, (and shot with arrows).
In my representation, the arrows are not visible, you can only see the marks left by them and the blood on his body, and his missing arms, as an allusion to Saint Sebastian's suffering. He is a model for the "heroism born of weakness" and also as the supreme emblem of Apollonian beauty, as Thomas Mann see the "Sebastian-Figure".
