About The Artwork

I was bringing my boat up to Conn from Annapolis, MD – as we passed under the Verrazano Bridge we entered the New York harbor in a dense fog, dodging commercial boat traffic thanks to our AIS navigation system. We were off the NYC Battery when the fog lifted and there was the City, shrouded in fog! Time 1:05AM, another Kodak moment.

BIOGRAPHY 02.29.16 Thomas N. Graves Thomas N. Graves, a Fairfield County Connecticut marine artist has been capturing the essence of the sea for over 40 years. Raised in Santa Barbara, California within walking distance of Hendry's Beach, he would spend hours watching the endless forms the waves created as they rose up and broke cascading their white foam. He is an experienced sailor who currently races and cruises his J/37c sailboat, Bad Dog on Long Island Sound and is a member of Cedar Point Yacht Club, Westport, Connecticut. He has participated in many “distant” races including a leg from Bermuda to Montauk. Tom says, “There is no better feeling on earth than being on the boat watching, hearing and feeling the bow digging into a wave, separating the water, watching it slide down the side of the boat and having it leave a marvelous wake astern.” His representational depictions are inspired by the sea, sea life and seafaring: they are the drivers for his paintings be it one of the many boat commission or work for the sheer enjoyment of capturing an image he likes on canvas. He is represented by the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery in Fairfield, Connecticut; Southport Gallery Southport, Connecticut; Hiden Galleries in Stamford, Connecticut as well having his work in numerous private collections. He is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. He paints from his studio, in Stamford, Connecticut.
