Nessus Painting

I create work from found materials -my paintings are no exception. This painting, Nessus, was done quite recently. Much of the found part of the “canvas” is clearly identifiable, almost bleeding through. In keeping with the title (Nessus was the Centaur who was killed by Heracles, and whose tainted blood in turn killed him), I took liberties in giving my portrait some extra features. The scraping, sanding and effects of the steel wool used are also clearly visible in this painting. I also used some found bits of cloth to serve as a nose for this figure. Note that the dimensions of this painting are approximate. As the wood I find and use is rarely square, framing this work would be a true challenge. I discourage any effort to do so-the painting should stand on its own.
