Noir et Blanc Painting

The title of this artwork is in French and it is untranslatable, but it means Black and White. The painted one is a friend of mine who is a painter herself. Her artist's pseudonym is Inga Noir, that is why the title stays in French. Soon after I met Inga I realized she is perfect to pose for my vision which was keep coming back to my mind: a slim white body is laying on the black drapery. This vision was based on a desire to create a painting with a harmony of black and white and to combine a contrast of a pale body and deep dark drapery. I was attracted by the challenge to portray the opposition of these colors with a help of a delicacy of the hues. And the root for it is an inspiring creation of a famous impressionist Édouard Manet. Even though I saw the exact posture of the figure, during the creative process I was putting it in the position so it wouldn’t be clear - is she laying, is she dancing, is she flying. Or all at once. And since the painted one is an artist herself it pushed the artwork even further: I added some details form her own creation, which gave a slice tint of surrealism to this piece.
