This artwork is linked to a series of drawings and paintings called "Nuits et merveilles". It talks about a city from the North of France : Roubaix. Roubaix is a city with a thousand contrasts and "thousand chimneys". From its patrimony, it has preserved some of these tall, long-neck ladies, vestiges of a rich and prosperous past. They now live other adventures with the new life of industrial wastelands that houses the activity of culture and creation. Roubaix, the French “city of a thousand chimneys”, "La nuit des arts" (an exhibition in Roubaix called "The night of the arts"), the story of the Thousand and One Nights (or Arabian Nights) that I'm reading at the moment, turned my head and I let myself be carried away. I imagine that like Scheherazade, Roubaix tells every night the story of each of its chimneys so as not to die. It seduces, It captivates, It tells and weaves links, one gets lost to better find oneself there. I present you my Roubaisian chimneys adorned with their colors, they evoke the textile and the activity that they host again. The night reveals their history and sometimes highlights the wonders, the way to move on to the next day, follow the red thread ... This artwork on paper is made with ink, painting and sandpaper (emery cloth). It' s mounted on a wooden stretcher frame. Edges are painted in black color. In my practice, I question the imagination, myths and history that feed my inspiration and create links with reality by producing graphic and pictorial "spaces" with paint. Both chaotic and organized microcosms, these "landscapes" express themselves in multitude and profusion. Water and Color are two mediums I use for seeing better and representing the world. Then I draw, I intertwine threads, I connect the elements to evoke one of the oldest activities of humanity, weaving, whose symbolic value is founding for our societies. I also practice engraving, photography, video and installation. Currently, my work has its roots in the myth of Arachne taken from the Metamorphoses of the poet Ovid. A feminine myth from which I draw the threads to weave them today under the light of our contemporary world, I question the means of expression of women and more particularly of women artists. This project is very large and will require me several months of research and work in different forms. Eventually, I would like to expose it in its entirety.
