Originally from Slovenia, Matej Anzin's journey in the world of art began at an early age, driven by a natural inclination towards hands-on creativity. His work is a testament to the importance of self-expression. He graduated from Industrial Design, is an active fine art painter and a carpenter. He moved from Los Angeles to Seattle in 2018, then relocated to Issaquah Highlands last year when seeking more family-oriented areas near the mountain trails. Anzin said he finds inspiration in the beauty and serenity of the area, which is reflected in his Pacific Northwest-inspired Impressionism. That is also his latest body of work. "My wife and I enjoy the beauty and serenity of the area, and the many options for recreation and creativity," Anzin said. "I am an athlete, a cyclist and have recently become a father." Influenced by both the Pacific Northwest and the late Slovenian Impressionist Masters, his body of work includes both traditional pieces and experimental mixed media paintings. Anzin does not believe that a true artist ever arrives and settles for one style nor genre. He believes in the personal freedom to continue to explore and experiment, switch up styles and genres like an 'art chameleon' based on inspiration and desire to inspire and provoke others. Anzin's art explores the contrasts of darkness and light, both within himself and society. His pieces reflect the struggle and beauty inherent in these dualities, challenging the idea that any color or intensity is too much. With no set formula, his approach to painting is one of discovery and experimentation, resulting in a diverse range of styles, techniques and genres. This fluidity underscores his belief that life itself is an experiment, where nothing is impossible or unrealistic. His paintings, whether clear and simple or complex and foretelling, are projections of reality that invites viewers to explore their own truths. He believes that while the future holds optimism and joy, it is also marked by unavoidable challenges, much like the "storms that clear the skies" for the sun to shine. "Is our future always bright and happy? Yes, eventually we get there if we are patient enough," Anzin said. "Do we endure great struggles in between? Certainly." His art invites viewers to explore the dualities of life and their inner worlds. At the end of all, "Life is but an experiment."
