Portrait of Nuno Oliveira after a performance in Lisbon. Nuno Oliveira is a Portuguese performer, a hero marginalized from society who reveals the misery of the human in his actions. He is a non-verbal language scholar and political activist. Through painting I want to turn his performance into legend. Realistic representation of the performative instant that I understand as a heroic act. Is it not the great purpose of Painting to enhance the heroic and historical spirit of its time? Through painting I represent the actions of urban performers, enclosed in their apartments, with the same spirit with which Jacques-Louis David represented Napoleon crossing the Alps.
