About the Artist

Uli Wu

Uruguay

ULI WU is a neo-expressionist artist working across painting, collage, and drawing. Born in 1982 in Vologda, Russia, she lived and worked in Asia for many years and is now based in Uruguay.
Her practice explores the unconscious through an intuitive and process-based approach, allowing images to emerge through the act of creation and interpreting them afterwards. Her work investigates identity, emotions, and the relationship between personal experience and cultural environment. She is particularly interested in how culture, mythology, collective memory, and social imagery shape identity and the unconscious. The body occupies a central place in her practice as a space where personal and collective experience intersect, raising questions of freedom, control, and the boundaries between the self and cultural archetypes and collective projections.
Her international career includes exhibitions in Latin America and Asia, as well as international awards and selections. Her work has been exhibited in Uruguay, Brazil, and Indonesia. In 2023, she was named a Selected Artist at the Visual Art Open (VAO), London, and in 2025 was included among the Top 30 Latin American Artists by UyArtists.
