I first picked up a paintbrush in 2004 I have never had any formal art training with the exception of 5th grade art class. It was not until renovating my home that my interest in art sparked. I was looking for original work to hang on our brand-new walls. Everything I found either was not the right size, right color or there was something about the piece that didn’t quite work. After a bit or research, I decided to try to paint some pieces myself. Our walls remained bare for quite some time and my very first works were painted with cheap paint brushes on leftover plywood from our newly built house. I experimented for about a year until I invested in professional grade supplies. Once I went from "experiment" to "these pieces will actually be hanging on my walls", my work took on a new turn - I actually liked what I was painting and my walls began quickly filling up with my work. Once I saw that I possibly had a talent that I never knew I had, I began spending quite a bit of time experimenting with textures, patterns, metal and metallic paints. I also began incorporating outside pieces for texture and uniqueness. (Metal, feathers, wood, sand etc.). I quickly learned that I liked working with textures and felt that they gave my paintings depth. Often, when staring at a blank canvas, I have no vision of what the outcome will be. My first step is to decide the canvas size and secondly the colors that I want in the painting. What comes beyond that is usually unplanned. This is what I like the most about painting - the process, the unknown. I find abstracts to be the most intriguing and had never appreciated the abstract style before. I gravitate towards deep and earthy colors with often an unexpected splash of color. I also love working with textures, shapes, and layers of color. I also discovered that a painting was never finished in my eyes until felt it was worthy of hanging on my walls. I must look at it every day – right? I diligently began to promote my artwork locally and through online auctions and with galleries. I began to receive requests for commissioned pieces from clients all over the U.S. and internationally. People began sending me pictures of their bare walls, along with paint and fabric swatches and wanted me to "make their walls come alive" as one client stated. I would like to thank the galleries displaying my work, the people who have supported me along the way, and you for viewing my art.
