Of invocation and possession - Circe and that which seemed human Painting

This piece draws inspiration from the book “The Odyssey” by Homer. In specific, the character of Circe, a woman, as described by Homer, as a witch of great strength and power. The imagery itself pertains to Circe’s enchantment of a crew of rowdy, misbehaving, and ungrateful castaways and the subsequent changing of them into pigs. In James Joyce’s novel “Ulysses”, greatly inspired by “The Odyssey”, the character based on Circe declares that she didn’t turn the men into pigs, she simply stripped away all the things that made them appear human. I created the piece for a published book project called: The Better Bombshell. The creators of this book teamed visual and literary artists in pairs, and asked each team to explore the theme of the modern, empowered woman. In their words: "This book pairs the progressive minds of passionate writers and artists to answer this question: Who is the better bombshell?"
