About The Artwork

I fell in love with this old Texas mansion as soon as I saw it. Ruins like this, with their cockeyed angles, draw me in. What happened that caused this beauty to be abandoned? I found her on the outskirts of Aspermont, Texas. As soon as I saw this house, my imagination recreated the sights and sounds and smells that once filled her rooms. It is a perfect conversation piece for your southern or country living room decor but would fit well also in a modern space. This was the first painting I did of this mansion. I used a mixture of realism and impressionism to recreate this abandoned mansion on canvas so that I could exaggerate the color palette. There is another listing here on Saatchi of a completely impressionistic painting I did of this house using full creative license with color and form. This 36 x 36 inch painting is a gallery wrap canvas with painted edges. It was done with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic paints and finished with Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. A hanging wire is attached. It is signed. A certificate of authenticity is provided.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
