About The Artwork

This painting is the first in my Chester Zoo series, which focuses on the endangered animals I saw on my visit in April 2022. I was moved by all the wonderful species I saw and felt inspired to share their story and raise awareness of their vulnerability. I knew I needed to paint this Javan green magpie as soon as I saw the balaclava on his little face. He perched high on his branch watching the world go by, while his bright plumage stood out from behind the bars, a scene that had to be captured. While working on this painting I was in two minds whether to include the cage from my reference photo. My aim for this piece was to highlight how few of these birds are left in the wild, so I’d already used a 50x50cm canvas to push that point but somehow leaving this bird locked up didn’t feel right. The urge to free him was overwhelming, so instead I put him against a bold blue sky, which not only complements the colours of his feathers but puts him in his natural habitat. I’m glad I did because this bird deserves to be free.

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artistic vision is to inspire a greater appreciation and respect for wildlife, I aim to create art that resonates with animal lovers, and highlights the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations. I use my art to portray the personality and behaviour of animals, and to invite the viewer to reflect on their own feelings towards them. I achieve this by experimenting with different artistic styles and techniques, choosing the most suitable one to communicate a particular message. Ultimately I hope to create a connection between humans and wildlife, while also expanding my own artistic abilities.
