About The Artwork

Details: - Created on a sturdy, 1.5" deep gallery wrapped canvas on an aluminum, cross braced frame - French cleat hanging hardware included - Sides painted white - Signed on front, signed/dated/titled on back About this piece: Deer are highly sensitive and alert creatures. In Native American culture, white deer are actually seen as a powerful spiritual symbol. They're considered to be a "huge sign of prophecy – a sign from the great spirit that a major shift in their world was to come." This painting represents the feeling of a "quiet knowing" just before large shifts in our lives. Something that we know in our bones, but don't quite know how we know. So it's something that we haven't quite expressed just yet. I think this feeling requires stillness to connect with. So this piece was painted from that mindset in an attempt to create a moment of stillness for the view as well. And while the deer himself is still, I imagine him walking in the snow without making a sound, then pausing for a moment, sensing something in the distance. Though mostly painted with black and white, this piece also incorporates a bit of umber to add a little hint of warm to the snowy, abstract background.

Aimée Rolin Hoover is an American painter who has devoted more than twenty years to depicting animals and nature. Initially, she attributed her early exploration of animal imagery simply to her lifelong affection for animals. But as her artistic practice developed, she discovered a much deeper connection between animals, nature, and healing. Encounters with animals—whether locking eyes with a coyote or feeling the gentle touch of a horse's muzzle—revealed to her a deeper awareness of life and her surroundings. These moments provided brief but welcome respites from the human tendency to overthink, guiding her to sense, feel, and connect. Her current body of work is inspired by this belief in the remarkable power of animals to ground us in the present moment, enriching our connection with life. Through her expressive paintings, she aims to capture the essence of these subtle yet profound moments, using her subjects as portals to invite viewers to experience joy, peacefulness, curiosity, and introspection. Aimée currently works and lives in southern California with her husband Scott, their dog Björn, and their cat Sesame.
