This painting is also available in limited edition prints on stallthreestudio.com/inside-africa. 'One Step in Front of the Other', an original painting by artist Sterling Crawford. The painting reflects on the world's largest privately owned Rhino Farm, where David Chancellor, the renowned documentary photographer, captured the soul-stirring photograph. In the heart of South Africa's North West province, a rhino breeding program called Platinum Rhino was, up until recently, home to more than 2,000 Southern White Rhino, representing 15% of its global population. The 21,000 acres and its rhinos were put up for auction in April of this year by owner John Hume due to no longer being able to afford costs to conserve, protect, and provide supplementary feeding for the animals. After receiving no bids at auction, the unanticipated purchase of ‘Platinum Rhino’ by NGO African Parks is a significant, uplifting, and promising development in the world of rhino conservation.

Sterling Crawford (b. 1997) is a self-taught artist born and raised in Greenville, SC. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a BS in Finance in 2019. After three years of working in accounting and growing her art experience and passion for art through commissioned dog portraits and landscape paintings, she embarked on a new journey as a full-time artist in late 2022. Sterling is a contemporary realistic painter, focusing on evoking a narrative in each of her original works. Sterling is inspired by art's ability to open people's eyes to a specific feeling or subject matter, leaving them to experience the world a little differently than before. She currently resides between Greenville and her family's farm in Laurens, South Carolina. Much of her inspiration comes from the landscape and lifestyle on the farm.
