Open Morning Painting

This is from a series of work based around putting neon signs in front of landscapes. I hope to show the contrast between the open free landscapes of Wyoming, and the man made most intense bright advertising of a neon sign. The night skies are only vivid and beautiful because of the lack of the city lights. Nature against mans efforts in a way. The other aspect is the content of Open being a state of mind and hopefully questioning the advertising world we are surrounding in and the untouched lands that have more to offer if we look for it. I choose to use spray paint because of the direct impact of the color and shape you get from aerosol. I work with stencils to find the tighter lines and let the spray paint speak for itself. You can't help but be reminded of a history of graffiti and how it was largely born out of the city for all to see when you see spray paint.
