About The Artwork

Mixed Media Experimental: Acrylic, modeling paste, and attached canvas on canvas. Artist worked as a scientific illustrator early in her career in a microbiology lab where they did DNA sequencing. This painting is inspired by the images that intrigued the artist during this time during the human genome project. Each little square vignette and the background of the design all have life happening.

Ginny divides time and inspiration between her Nashville and Savannah studios. She enjoys promoting the arts in her communities and has captained an arts organization and mural projects supporting emerging artists. She enjoys the variety in sculpture, painting, portraits and murals, but is best known for her sculptural painting style. The method is reminiscent of a frieze, which is a relief sculpture, usually an architectural element or impasto or thick application of paint, She uses modeling paste or other clay-like materials applied to a canvas or board and the effect is visually dynamic and textural...it is meant to be touched. This painting technique was developed from influences as a sculpture minor and a love for painting and color. “I have had a lifelong passion for art and it’s creation is a euphoric transporting experience. My hope is to convey this passion and joy to my audience. I am thankful for the opportunity and time to experiment and play and consider myself a lifelong student allowing time consistently to study and learn new techniques. My inspiration comes from life and travel. I try to view the world in unique ways, then contain this vision within my canvas distinctly.” The tools for sculptural painting are modeling paste, acrylic paint, palate knives, cake decorating tools, clay and dental tools.
