About the Artist

Gaston _

Italy

Gaston (Gastone Serrangeli) is an Italian artist born in 1947 (Ancona).
From young age, he developed his knowledge in figurative art, attending art galleries all over Italy.
His artistic career started in the mid-80's when, far from official academic art and influenced by Secession and German Expressionism, he developed his unique style and focused his attention on gestural painting and colours.
His works fully reflect a deep freedom in representation, involving painting directly with fingers and avoiding any kind of physical media between the artist and his work,to preserve pureness and expressivity.

In the late 90's Gaston meets the artist Jose Guevara, beginning an artistic and friendly relationship that led his works to be recognized outside of Italy.
This relationship also affected his representation and oriented it towards the "lirico segno" (lyrical gesture), a depiction less bound to realism.
Gaston's imaginary, now reveals an archetypal connection to ancient symbols and primitive forms that are re-enacted to serve as a key to depict reality.
This kind of abstraction is described by the artist as a lyrical process where elements of reality are translated into simple and powerful gestures using primary colours.

Gaston's works have been exhibited in numerous italian venues as Ascoli Piceno, Urbino, Salvi International Prize, Marche Prize, Mole Vanvitelliana association and many others.
In the last few years, collectors from all over the world recognized his works and now they can be found in London (including the artist Enrico David), Hong Kong, Stockholm, Madrid.
