Alexandre Liberato (b. 1981) is a Portuguese visual artist, graduated in Architecture from the Technical University of Lisbon. Based in Berlin since 2012, he pursues an interdisciplinary practice encompassing painting, textile art, and sculpture. Rooted in the interplay of space and materiality, his work reveals a sustained inquiry into care, transformation, and resilience. Working primarily with fabrics and sewing threads, Liberato investigates social and identity constructs, questioning how invisible structures shape personal identities, challenging entrenched dynamics of power, and reexamining notions of gender. Often employing layered surfaces, sculptural folds, and subtle color palettes, his compositions invite reflection on the fragile boundary between vulnerability and strength. Liberato has expanded his practice through specialized programs such as the CREART Artistic Research Labs and a residency at Konvent.Zero in Barcelona. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including at KINDL – Center for Contemporary Art, Hošek Contemporary, 48 Stunden Neukölln, Studio Baustelle, Projektraum 145, and his own STUDIO/GALLERY in Berlin. Additionally, he has exhibited at the Thessaloniki Queer Art Festival and was recently selected by the curatorial team of the 18th International Triennial of Textile Art at the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź, Poland.
