ABOUT THE ARTWORK

PENTACLE 100x100 acrylic on canvas gold 2016 Polina Ogiy pentagram; pentalpha ≈ pentagonal (pentagonal) star ≈ pentacle < pentangulum, pentaculurn ---- Drawn in one fell swoop five-pointed star. Natural types one would find in a five-radial symmetry of some echinoderms (e.g. sea stars). Sumerian and Egyptian symbol for the stars. The geometric symbol of harmony, health and mystic powers associated with the symbols of the number five. Being infinite, five-pointed star perceives the value, power, and perfection of the circle. Like a circle, the pentagram is able to bind the evil forces and elementals, therefore, also symbolizes good luck. Five of its peaks mean spirit, air, fire, water and Earth. It is also a symbol of marriage, implementation: five rays represent the fruitful Union of the three, male, and two females. The inverted pentagram in everyday perception — a symbol of destruction of the Devil (goat head), pohotovost and rude instincts. Core values: the five senses, Ancient East apparently, the pentagram originally appeared four thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, probably as the astronomical scheme of movement of the planet Venus. Egypt In Egyptian tombs starry sky marked with five-pointed stars. The antiquity of the Pentagram is found in Etruscan ceramics. The Pythagoras and his disciples, the pentagram is seen as a combination of numbers two and three (respectively female and male of the earth, the beginning of heaven), which determines its role as a symbol of Union of heaven and earth, mystical harmony and microcosm (the human body and mind). Being the sacred symbol of the bodily and spiritual harmony, the pentagram is also a symbol for the five senses, health, and the goddess of Gigai. In this last case the vertices of the pentagram represented bukvami S, A, L, V, S. Inscribed in a circle (hidden) pentagram, means silence dedicate five of its ends — the symbol of the five years of silence the student before initiation. It is believed that it is due to the Pythagoreans "the pentagram finally acquired occult significance". Judaism According to one version, the pentagram could be drawn that the famous king Solomon's seals (for other seal of Solomon is the hexagram). In 300-150 BCE the pentagram stands (official) the emblem of Jerusalem. Gnosticism Among the Gnostics and Manichaeans of the pentagram is a Central symbolic sign, projecting a graphical representation of the sacred number five, corresponding to the number recognized by these groups of believers of the elements — light, air, wind, fire, water. Not surprisingly, the "Abraxas"-amulets of late antiquity, five-pointed star occurs just as often as in the later magical literature of the West. The widespread use of the pentagram is a characteristic of the newer sects (the same for the Balkan bogomilov), and for the doctrines and practices of alchemy. Perhaps this "honor" manifest secret "downstream" of religious-philosophical Gnostic kind of thought that stands against the official Church doctrine. The pentagram is often depicted on gravestones both in its normal and in a hidden manner — like five-fingered hand. Christianity Christian iconography applies the five-pointed star as a reference to the five wounds of the crucified Jesus and the sign of the corresponding circle (due to its closed form), as a symbol of the relationship of beginning and end in Christ. Alchemy Patricelli elements. One of the symbols of the spiritual essence of the four usual elements. Magic the Pentagram is one of the most frequently and variously used magical symbols. Usually, it serves as a protective sign (against the demons), so its image is often found on buildings (carved on the sills, doors and door beams), talismans and amulets (rings), trees, rocks, etc. For example, in the Alpine region there are a large number of pentagrams carved on the rocks during the periods of late middle ages and early modern period, the images of which are combined with Christian symbols and designations of the genitals, also perceived as amulets. In magical practice, the pentagram is seen as a means of gaining power over earthly and supernatural worlds, her images often serve as the basis for a variety of magical symbols and tools in magical rituals. (Such as special powers attributed to Pentacles, depicted on parchment from the skin of a young calf). Under various names (star of the Microcosm, ~ mages, pentacle Will,) widely known figure Agrippa Nettesheim representing the conscious man, the figure with outstretched limbs inscribed within a five-pointed star. This image is considered as the image of the whole person (human Microcosm), the spirit and the will which dominates the materiality of the four elements and his own passions (limbs)[1]. In his desire to embrace the whole world (quadrilateral) and, thanks to the knowledge of the laws governing them, such a person seeks to go beyond it (upper beam) to a new happy existence. At the same time, such as the adept uses the available means of spells and mastering (for better or worse, to the outside world) depends only on th Will. The inverted pentagram represents the human figure, turned upside down — a symbol of conquer the passions of the will or a passive person, allowing evil spirits to subjugate his will. Rather later than "separation" magic light, light and black helped perpetuate over the inverted pentagram as a negative symbol of evil, Satan, perversions of the true nature of man, of witchcraft, necromancy and Satanism. As such, it is commonly called "witch's foot"[2], "goat hoof", etc. and often depicted with one centered in it is goat head. Such semantic divergence (in particular, change positive value to negative when you flip the sign) is characteristic of all traditions with a sharp (moral) dichotomy between good and evil. When writing magical pentagram, it is important that it is drawn in one continuous movement and was locked up as it is presented in one of the scenes of Goethe's Faust, in which Mephistopheles can't leave the house of Dr. not until the mouse chews through one of the lines, written pentacle. Often emphasizes the importance of sequence of drawing of the sign: "beloberezhsky" method of drawing requires to start from the left prong, then lead the line to the right, out left, down, etc., until the figure is finished in the original item. Magicians sometimes depicted in the headdress, having the shape of a pentagram — a means of calling in the aid of supernatural forces. Kabbalah and Kabbalistic Jewish Latin monograms are often made in the form of a pentacle-a talisman, inscribed in the protective circle. Freemasonry "Flaming (blazing) star" as a symbol of Masonic initiation has been known since 1735 This sign gets a Mason, reaching the degree of Journeyman. It symbolizes the person that reached Enlightenment (quintessence, release entities I) the result of painstaking work on yourself, and free (clean) from all prejudices and superstitions thought. Usually, this star is in the center of the image of the letters "G" and corner flames or diverge the beam. This light "reminds us of the sun, which illuminates with its rays the earth and allow his blessings to become the heritage of the human race, giving all on earth the light and the life"[3]. Literature is interpreted in different ways, referring to the concepts of knowledge and teaching — gr. gnosis; the geometry of God. Gott; glory — FR. la gloire; etc. "The pentagram, which in Gnostic schools is called the flaming star, is the sign of omnipotence and spiritual self-control... the Letter G that free masons are entered into the fiery center of a star, reminiscent of the two sacred words of the ancient Kabbalah: "gnosis" and "his". A pentagram also means "the great architect" — because whichever way we look at it, we see the large letter A". Eliphas Levi Heraldry is the Emblem of sir Gawain[4], a Golden pentagram painted on his shield represents the five knightly virtues — generosity, endurance/fortitude, temperance, generosity and piety. White five-pointed star traditionally corresponds with the "North" star, as, for example, in the official emblem of the Imperial yacht "polar star". Occultism Is a "spiritual form" of the human figure (the so-called pentagramma position). The inverted pentagram is regarded as a symbol of the perversion of the true nature of a person, or a sign of materialistic tendencies — "outpouring of energy in the Earth." In its normal position it is spiritual, and "directs the energy up". Ad notanda Emblem of the Soviet period, goes back to "Martian red star" as the sign of the red army. Rough materials is considered to be the imprint of the hoof of the devil, the feet of the Goblin, brownie... "Leg" means, apparently, support magic science witch... Drawing pentagrams can also be regarded as a purely gaming the pursuit of graphic skills... the pentacle, pantacle expression to denote different characters spell ritual magic. When used in magic rituals five-pointed star is commonly called the "pentacle". The proportions of this symbol is based on sacred proportions called the "Golden Section", which is any point on the lines, which divides this line that the smaller part is in the same ratio to the larger part, and the greater part to the whole. This can be seen on the chart. The line AC divided at b so that: BC/AB = AB/AC = CD/AC = AC/AD Is the "Golden Section" or divine Proportion, as it is sometimes called, is manifested in each individual line of the pentagram and helps to explain the adoration with which the magicians looked upon this symbol. For example, we can see the details on her tombstone former Freemason in the churchyard in Littleboro, figure, made to a secret order, called the Order of the Rose and cross, on one of the magic tablets used by the occultist John Dee for summoning angels, on a rough figure used by black magicians to conjure demons, and one of the seals-mascots registered Agrippa. It is interesting to note that the pentagram on the last two images are inverted so that one vertex of the symbol is facing down. the mystery, the magic is the Simplest star shape that can be drawn without lifting a single line. Hence one of her titles — "the endless knot" (Endless Knot). Other names: the cross of goblins (Goblin's Cross) pentalpha — (Pentalpha) leg/foot of the witch — (Witch's Foot) star of the devil — (Devil's Star) seal of Solomon along with the hexagram — (Seal of Solomon) has Long regarded as a powerful amulet and protection from demons and all evil. Hence the symbolism of security and popularity as an amulet, for example, for a happy homecoming. Evidence of use of the mark as a talisman over the doors and Windows of buildings, a folk song "Green Grow the Rushes, O!"[5], one of the lines which reads as follows: Five is the symbol at your door. Five is the symbol at your door. A sign with a long history, a variety of practices and deep layers of meanings, many of which, however, formed relatively recently. Currently all-pervasive symbol of neo-paganism, closely associated with magic. The oldest examples date back to approx. 3500 BC (Uralsky period). In Ur (Dr. Mesopotamia) discovered clay tablets with the oldest known written characters, with the pentagram. In later periods the pentagram is found in Mesopotamian art among the "Royal inscriptions", which symbolizes the Supreme power, "spreading/stretching in the four directions/the end of the world". The Jews is a symbol of Truth and of the Pentateuch. Sometimes confused with Solomon's seal. Used in parallel with the hexagram (?). In Ancient Greece, is considered as a combination of five letters alpha. The geometry and metaphysical associations of the pentagram by the Pythagoreans studied (586-506 BC), for which she served as a symbol of perfection. Many researchers, based on evidence about the travels of Pythagoras, explain the importance of the pentagram to pythagorism with its symbolic meaning in Egypt, Chaldea and even in tantricheskom Indian art. Perceived post-Hellenistic art as the embodiment of the Golden ratio and occurs in the design of a number of cathedrals. "Flaming star" of the Gnostics, which, together with the Crescent moon, the magic and mysteries of the night sky. The druids — a symbol of the God's head. The Celts associated with the underground goddess Morrigan. In Ancient Egypt the symbol of "the underground womb", similar in concept with the shape of a pyramid. In early Christianity — the five wounds of Christ; the value, which remained till the middle ages. Since the Inquisition does not appear previously to note the Association of the pentagram with the devil and demonic forces. Often the geometric shape of "the endless knot" is correlated with the Truth, religious mysticism and the work of the Creator. Protection from demons as a personal amulet and talisman, protecting Windows and doors. The pentagram is present on one side of the print (and/or amulet) of Emperor Constantine; on the other — depicted Constantine cross (Chi-Rho monogram, christogram). The Epiphany of timeat its symbol is the pentagram as a sign of the truth which the Messiah brings Gentiles. Later the pentagram in this context replaced patianna star — reaction on the active use of the pentagram by neo-pagans. In an upright position, serves as a symbol for summer tilted winter. The center of the Order of the Templars (Rennes du Chatres, France) surrounded by a stand off of him for a few miles the mountain tops, forming almost regular Pentagon. This circumstance has given rise to a huge number of symbolic/geomantic calculations relating to both the pentagram and hexagram. In surviving from the order of the monuments are found traces of the use of the pentagram as a symbol/of the matrix of the Golden section. Demonology the Inquisition used the pentagram as a means of combating heresies, exposing the inverted pentagram as a symbol of the Devil (the Baphomet), representing a goat's head. The prevalence of the pentagram in architecture and decor and the room was allowed to accuse developonline almost any, and this was done against the Templars. In the period of witch-hunting popular protective and magical symbol to be identified with the pagan horned gods and the devil. During this period, the sign is perceived mainly negatively, by binding with witchcraft and the forces of evil gets the name "witch's foot". *** The concept of the microcosm — the world of man as analogous to the macrocosm (as above, so below), becomes part of the Western occult tradition. The pentagram as the "Star of the microcosm" is a figure of a man inscribed in a pentagram. The figure shows a similarity with the pentagram. Silently, Break in his "Calendarium Naturale Magicum Perpetuum" (1582) leads the inscribed pentagram with the human body, and Hebrew letters YHSVH associated with the elements. Illustrations for a contemporary of Brahe Agrippa Netgamesusa have similar proportions and includes five planetary symbols and zodiac moon in the Central point coinciding with the genitals. Other images of this period belonging to Robert Fludd and Leonardo da Vinci also show a geometric relationship between man and the Universe. Later, the pentagram symbolically correlates with head and four limbs and, respectively, of the ether (pure concentrated essence of anything) (or the spirit) with the four traditional elements (earth, water, air, fire) — spirit is The Quintessence. In Freemasonry, Man as Microprosopus was and is associated with the five-pointed Pentalpha. The symbol was used, interlaced and upright for the sitting Master of the Lodge. The geometric properties and structure of the Endless Knot were appreciated and symbolically incorporated into the 72 degree angle of the compasses, the Masonic emblem of virtue and duty. The origins of freemasonry are lost in the depths of history, obscured by the traditional Craft of the secrecy order, but there are signs throughout history of the associations of craftsmanship and ritual and symbolism that have remained known only to a few, and the history of the pentagram has remained occluded in the same kind of mystery. The women's branch of freemasonry uses the five pointed Eastern Star with two points up as its emblem. Each point commemorates a heroine of biblical lore. No known graphical illustration associating the pentagram with evil appears until the nineteenth century. Eliphaz Levi Zahed (actually the pen name of Alphonse Louis Constant, a defrocked French Catholic Abbй) illustrates the upright pentagram of microcosmic man beside an inverted pentagram with the goat's head of Baphomet. It is this illustration and juxtaposition that has led to the concept of different orientations of the pentagram being good and evil. In the period from 1888 until 1814 Golden dawn (Golden Dawn) has done much to promote and disseminate modern hermetic Kabbalah among the followers of various schools of philosophy and Kabbalistic magic. In 1940 godu Gerald Gardner (Gerald Gardner) takes the inverted pentagram as a symbol of the second degree/the degrees of initiation in the ritual of the emerging neo-pagan witchcraft cult, and later of foreachelse in Vicco (Wicca). The symbols of the first and third degrees of initiation in this system are the triangle top down and the combination and the combination obrashennih up pentacme and triangle, respectively. By the early 1960s the pentagram again important amulet in connection with the growing interest of witchcraft and pagan cults, G. O., Wicca (Witchcraft and Wicca), followed by numerous publications. The inverted pentagram is actively used by many satanic cults following the Church of Satan, founded Antono La-VEEM (The Church of Satan by Anton LaVay). As the emblem of the last of the cult of the inverted pentagram is sensed from the image of Baphomet entered in a symbolic turnover by Eliphas Levi. As a result, the attitude of the Christian Church to the pentagram purely negative, like that of the swastika in post-war Europe. The difference in the perception of direct and inverted pentagrams led to their juxtaposition as symbols of white and black magic, or ethical principles of vicenta (the Wiccan Rede of "An it harm none, do what you will" — do no harm and do what you want) and Satanism (the dominance of material over the spirit, and physiological). Despite the fact that the inverted pentagram is a symbol gagarinskoe pavesini (Gardnerian initiation), many vaccancy, especially In the US, refrain from using this symbol, because of sharply negative reaction to it by Christian fundamentalists. Even direct use of the pentagram often leads to social discrimination of modern Gentile society. A well-established symbol of neo-paganism and viskanta, giving diverse mystical significance and erect (quite arbitrarily) to an ancient folklore tradition. His popularity as a symbol of neo-paganism, comparable to that of the cross as a Christian symbol, rooted in the prevalence of the symbol and not in its antiquity.
