Title: PICTA Frieze 29 – The Gods
Technique: Painting in Serigraphy in 35 colours, on Fabriano paper(200g)
(artistic screen printing, hand-printed with the direct method)
Is a Unique piece original - UNICUM
Dimensions: 90 x 100 cm
Date of execution: 2019

Starting from silkscreen printing, I developed a special personal technique that I’ve been using for many years to create unique artworks (not to produce multiples). The preparatory drawings were engraved on screen printing frames, becoming the protagonist icons of the compositional stories as unique moments. I “painted” in “layers,” on Fabriano papers, applying silkscreen printing by hand, with the direct method, handling the screens as if they were paintbrushes, pencils or engraving points, thus working with superimposed “sets of shapes,” enables me to create sharp images whose strong and clean chromatic impact supports the materiality of the acrylic/vinyl colors, and at the same time renders details with great precision. The beauty of this technique also lies in the trace left by the layer of ink that passes through the screen mesh, and in the vibrant intensity of the colors.
I created the drawings (which were engraved on the screen printing frames) interpreting, through the metamorphosis, fragments of ancient Roman statues of Hellenistic inspiration and the anatomical human body.
The expression of the icon of the male body of the work represents the relationship between the work of art and nature, between the body represented in the work of art and the anatomical human body.
"The GODS" (PICTA 30) is a composition with icons, 90 x 100 cm, painted on Fabriano paper, painted through silk-screen frames. I used 11 drawings.
To create the drawings of the icons of the gods I was inspired by the Roman copies of Hellenistic statues and Roman statues that are found in the Palazzo Altemps (Statue of dadoforo, Athena, Herakles), in the Palazzo Massimo (Hellenistic Prince, Herakles, Lucrezia, statues found in residential villas) and in the Capitoline Museums (Hercules and others). Engraved on silk-screen frames, my drawings interpret in an iconic language allusive statues of ancient Rome, humanized and connected symbolic images, where the human body is not inspired by anatomy, but to the human body "work of art", composed as the impulses of memory in an open space, interwoven with the writings in the Roman lapidary character that become images.
The theme is precisely that of TIME as absolute winner, in a world in color.
