About The Artwork

My rooster, Captain Crimson, stays calm when he experiences the four different emotions. During the covid isolation, I paid more attention to my farm animals, especially my chickens. They are really hilarious. They only have one facial expression… a blank face. Chickens are very simple. They seem happy all the time as long as they have food and water. They are only busy when running and chasing for food. As a metaphor, I used a rooster named Captain Crimson to show represent different circumstantial moods.

Little about me I was born and grew up in Seoul, South Korea. Most of my memories of childhood are in black and white. The Street Signs were in black and white, black and white photography, buildings, people dressed shabby, a bare mountain, black and white newspapers for street food packing and so on... 1960s and 1970s South Korea was developing nation. Korean didn't have fancy colorful life like Korean has today. My family and I immigrated to the United States at the end of the 80's in the chaotic era of South Korea. In my late 30’s, I decided pursue my dream as a painter and studied Fine Art at Otis Art and Design College in Los Angeles. After I graduated from Otis college, I’ve been working as a graphic designer, an educator and a painter. Recently I moved from California to Abilene, Texas to start a new chapter in my life. My art is expressed in humor, bright colors that overlap with black and white, breaking away from the memories locked in black and white. I became a member of Center of Contemporary for Art Abilene three years ago. I have been showing my works in several group shows at CCA and showed works at Cactus Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.
