About The Artwork

My fellowship at the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College was almost over. My sculptural project was titled "100 Things a Girl Can Make", I was at about number 20 when I decided to return to watercolors. However. after working so physically in sculpture I was very comfortable making the leap to large scale work. Here, in the creamer and sugar are almost dancing off the table. Other techniques used are wet in wet in black and red table cloth and the curtain. Crayon resist is used on the tea set. I was interested in limiting the color for this to four colors: gray, white, charcoal, and red. The tea set sits precariously on the table with a mysterious curtain partially opening. The image is based on a paper tea set that I made while at Bunting,

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

These large watercolor and gouache works on paper (usually 140lb Arches hot press) are figuratively inspired but painted with a vibrant physically engaged approach. The images are drawn from my life experiences. I use crayon resist, wet and wet, sgraffito ( using the back of my fingernails to scrape away the paint or use the flat side of a screwdriver to uncover a colorful under painting). I get a thrill when I take a chance and push the image but can still limit myself to a restrictive palette. I give the composition a twisted perspective, the picture builds up energy and the slanting images feel like they are slipping off the edge of the paper. You are seeing the image from my POV. I use hot and zestful saturated colors. I look at still life with a fresh perceptiveness, humor and whimsy: a joi de vivre approach where "less is more than meets the eye". I studied at the Massachusetts College of Arts, I have work in the Fogg Art Museum, MIT, The Rose Art Museum, and the Paine-Webber Collection. I also work with industrial grade aluminum foil but I am currently not offering this work at Saatchi. I was the featured artist, sponsored by Interall Srl, Aluminum 2000, Verona Italy this June.
