About The Artwork

Reference to the accident that broke the Brumadinho barrier in 2019, which caused serious environmental impacts. The name of the city "Brumadinho" is due to the mists common throughout the mountainous region in which the municipality is located, especially in the morning. In the upper left part of the painting is represented a Botocudo Indian (generic name given by Portuguese colonizers to different indigenous groups belonging to the Macro-Jê trunk, a non-Tupi group). Among the bird species that suffer most from the degradation environment in that region, are represented in the painting, from bottom to top: the “lenheiro-da-serra-do-cipó” (in english: vine mountain range lumberjack), also known as João-Cipó, an endemic species of Brazil, measuring up to 17 cm, has the upper parts dark brown and the lower ones more greyish, with a white throat; the “crying garrincha” is another endemic species, also known as the “straw-tail”, reaching 19 cm in length; the “green-necked hummingbird” measures only 8 cm, has a forehead, chin, and bluish green throat resembling a tie, the belly is bluish gray; the “pedreiro-do-espinhaço” measures up to 22 cm, has a chocolate-colored upper plumage, a beige underside and a yellowish band over the eyes. This painting is being shown in the River in Motion exhibition, at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Museum of Life, in Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition began on December 20, 2019, it was interrupted at the beginning of the pandemic, and then it was reassembled. Due to the great success of visitation, the exhibition was extended by two years, finished at December, 20, 2023. You can watch videos about the exhibition at: https://youtu.be/mFbMcL7KrQ8

I'm a Brazilian artist from Rio de Janeiro. In my artwork I use linear movements involving geometric and organic shapes that dialogue between vivid colors. I create figurative contemporary and abstract images. My main theme is about biodiversity and natural resources. _http://www.flickr.com/photos/rodrigoandrian/ _https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XcKrCWtiuI&t=31s
