Part 7 Painting

The central question of art and its real problem is the question of media. What is the real medium of paint? In opposition to the sign in literature the visual sign has its background, but the character has none. The character stands in a complete vacuum, in physical vacuum, while the sign in the painting lies on its background. The background is the potential space (surface) that surrounds it, that it partly (actually) fills. Therefore, painting is not only a sum of actual signs, a color coating, within the edges it is really a field of potentiality, as well. Is the image abstract, or not, it is an artificially planted dilemma. There is really no such a dilemma, it doesn't exist, at all. The concept of absolute freedom with no rules is the imposed pattern, as well. There is no freedom without the rules, in art especially. To stop turning in circles, that is why the rules are for. Only then we can explore and move around in an endless and unpredictable space environment options. If Marcel Duchamp had been keeping playing chess, it was precisely because of this. As the measure of comparability - the rules are set for and there they play the role of the only real social correction. Talking about creativity, you can still keep following the stampede of "novelty seekers", seekers of the New world. But while in the air hangs a threat to ecological disaster, Global warming, it is also a dread, but we can rightly fear more of congestion, saturation, numbness, helplessness and disorientation, which is reflected in the crisis of institutions and systems, and in increasingly unmanageable number of (aging) population, reach and poor, and lost illusions, while the TV shows of "instant satisfactions" change them from "homo faber" to a kind of "human plants", while remaining out of work or jobs they become useless. The creative enthusiasm, however, can not be imagined as a collective labor action since its saurce, I imagine, it always derives from the individuals and the spirit, their personal ingenuity, as well as the creative product itself may not be apparent otherwise as of singularity (such as the process or its result). But anyhow, it does not mean it is not possible to change some postulates, which has a shelf life that already has expired long ago. Therefore, let us stop for once to look what may be the last or the final image at all, let us search its meaning (or sense), instead.
