Pasión Painting

For Robin Ballard, the subject of “Pasión” is a still life, which has been disrupted and in a sense brought to life. Flowers, leaves, blossoms and petals appear to be captured in time as they explode across the painting's surface. The artist applied acrylic paint in thin layers so the white of the primed canvas shines through the colors adding to the painting’s luminescence, transparency and sense of lightness to its floral imagery. The intense red blossoms set against an off-black background influenced the painting title, which means passion in Spanish. The painting is a real eye-catcher, but on closer inspection the complexity of layers and colors engage the viewer on another level.
