Wladimir Tasoff is a contemporary figurative artist whose work explores the space between realism and surrealism. Born in Russia and based in Quito, Ecuador, Tasoff has devoted more than 25 years to painting, developing a distinctive visual language that combines the human figure, nature, symbolism, and dreamlike imagery.
His paintings often focus on the female figure, transforming the body into a meeting point between the human and the natural world. Figures merge with landscapes, vegetation, water, mountains, and atmospheric forms, creating mysterious environments where reality and imagination coexist. Mythological and spiritual references, together with elements of Western and Eastern visual culture, add symbolic depth to his compositions.
Tasoff works primarily in oil, combining traditional figurative painting with a contemporary surrealist sensibility. His approach is rooted in careful observation of the human form while allowing imagination, symbolism, and emotion to transform reality.
His paintings have been exhibited internationally, including at Art Miami, and are held in private collections. Alongside his studio practice, Tasoff founded the Escuela de Pintura Clásica Wladimir Tasoff in Quito, where he has taught classical painting techniques since 2006.
Through his paintings, Tasoff seeks to create more than an image: he invites the viewer into an emotional and mysterious world where the boundaries between the real and the imagined begin to disappear.
