ABOUT THE ARTWORK

As I laid down the dark green in this painting I became fascinated with the possibilities of this creation of mine. The large amount of gray just spoke of a huge mountain in the distance. The painting impacted me with a powerful meaning, actually several. One is how the Lord directs our paths if we choose to let him do so. The second is from the scripture from Jeremiah 6:16, "Stand at the crossroads and ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest..." And the third, is the leap of faith off the ledge of the path we have been attending to for a long time. And for some folks, is required by God to step into a future he has designed for them.. A leap into the unknown.. The painting is very simple and I hope the viewers appreciate the beauty of that.

I have always loved to draw and paint. I was born on Long Island and now reside in North Carolina as a self employed artist. I have studied at the Art Students League and the Fashion Institute of Technology both in New York City, and have a degree in Fashion Illustration and a Fellowship in Folk Art Studies from the American Folk Art Museum in New York. I also was a resident artist at The Studio in Apex, North Carolina. I love American Folk Art. My paintings are often inspired by the fresh, direct and imaginative work of folk art painters. Sometimes I use a scratching technique, like scraffito on pottery to give texture to my work. I am an intuitive painter. I paint in response to the inner leading of the spirit within me. I rarely have an idea in my head as I approach my canvas. that being said, I believe that as an artist pursues their craft with intention and integrity they will be rewarded with vision and skill to create a thing of beauty and truth. As an abstract painter, I enjoy working in acrylic the most, yet I like the diversity of all the mediums that are out there in the market. As a creative person I am always challenged to explore new techniques which sometimes means leaving the old behind. I think the best painters are the risk takers. It's the best place to be and where the real rewards are for the artist.
