Pattern in the Forest Painting

Inspired by Beech trees in the forest and fluttering leaves; a riot of colour and shape. The mood is sultry and exotic, enhanced by varying depths of linear outline. The repeat pattern was developed from sketches of observations of trees and leaves and printed by monotype onto tea bags. Tea bags provide an exciting surface for artwork, resembling hand made special paper. It is also natural and reflects the subject matter of forest observations. It is as flexible as fabric and can withstand many processes. The linear image was printed using traced monotype, then dye added. Selected parts were bleached allowing different colours to be further applied. The varying depths of tea stains allows different absorption of dye, creating exciting shadows and movement. Embroidery with metallic thread has been added to some lines, guiding the eye along the pattern. The piece is unframed, allowing for personal choice of mount and frame
