Persian Lady (Nederlandse tekst onder de Engelse tekst) My first painting in the series 'Demoiselles Mondiale' is the canvas 'Persian Lady'. The series shows strong women, painted on large, loose canvases, inspired by my travels, encounters, art that touches me and my own feminine strength. Persian Lady shows my interest in the exotic Persian Culture, which has come to us through the trade in Persian carpets. In my studio I have several such carpets on the floor, in warm colors, with lots of deep red. They are a kind of abstract images of rectangular gardens, with all kinds of floral motifs. It is as if there is a protective wall around the garden so that you have to enter through a gate. And there is often a center in the middle in an arabesque form. Especially when I was a child, I liked to dream on such a carpet and fantasized my own worlds around the motifs that were knotted from the wool of the sheep that roamed in ancient Persia. The colors and color combinations also came to life in my imagination. Later I realized that such a garden motif of a Persian carpet could also refer to the woman and her feminine sensuality. The Persian Lady, painted in playful lines and planes, shows this symbiosis between woman and carpet. She is standing like a self-confident woman, with her hair in a tail, and she will pour clear water from her can, if you are thirsty. The canvas is 200 x 100 cm, the painting is 180 x 100. The painting can be hang as a loose canvas but can also be stretched to a frame. Painted on professional linen with professional paint.

In a short docu I show you my latest series of paintings in my studio. In Dutch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPrjF3D0Irs&t=61s Living in a not-too-big city in the south of the Netherlands, the Dutch visual artist Sylvia Thijssen walks every day to her studio. It is a four kilometers walk wherein she crosses two small rivers. It is an excellent distance to free her mind of domestic affairs for to let the muse in. It is in this sunny, personal space that she paints her colorful canvasses, in active gestures big and small, like dancing, always trying to hear the colors sing together, searching for an energy wherein is also the peace of a moment in eternity, taking time as if the paint forms a structure that grew and matured. Thijssen is not thinking of her work as making paintings, no, these are adventures. Exciting adventures for her as a painter to make new experiences for the one who is looking at them. These adventurous paintings are meant to wander the mind and to wonder the eye. See also her website: http://www.sylviathijssen.nl
