The colors show the artist’s indigenous identity working as an important component in the work. In order to give the impression of her brilliant and shining summer years the paint color named Dianthus Pink is used in the main and - unlike opaque colors and surfaces of previous works - transparent oil paint is emphasized along with drawing. The artist sensitively reacts to the weather, light, and temperature of the air for spontaneous and straight-forward expression. For example, she enjoys exploring colors continuously changing depending on the natural light. And the colors and lines created without a plan work together to imply the narrative of the artist’s inner feelings, and open the possibility of discovering her unconscious. This tells us of the summer remembered by Melody Park. This summer reminds of a natural wine drunk under the bright sunlight, and feeling like being underwater with the reflection of the light like in her imaginings and dreams. They are expressed in pink and blue colors through the transparent oil paints as if clear water is flowing. The drawings give the feeling of the refreshing summer energy like when a pink lemonade is in my hand and the clear and blue ocean is spread in front of my vacation chair, or like in a clear glass filled with lemon, water, and ice reflecting the blue sky of Spring.

Melody Park (b. 1987) lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She holds a BA in Fine Art from Kingston University, and an MLitt (Drawing pathway), also in Fine Art, from the Glasgow School of Art. She is an artist who is quicker with her hands than with her head. She is not beholden to plans or preconceived notions about the finished article. She prefers to let the work unfold of its own accord. There is a spontaneity and serendipity about her work process. Such a process tends to produce more abstract pieces. She has an intrinsic visual and spatial curiosity, and interests in the relationships between colour, shape, objects, and the body. She is inspired by her daily life and she believes that art is the experimental research arm of our studies into the everyday.
