Pioneers in history has been the inspiration for this series of paintings. I've started with female pilots, brave woman that learnt to fly and did heroic deeds in a time when planes too often fell from the sky.

The style is streetart with its typical stencils. I've worked with stencil in plastic to make sure the acrylic paint gets sharp edges. Some layers is screenprinted with motivs like skyscrapers, newpaper clips and an old parish register.

The canvas is mounted on a wooden frame.

Pia Lilenthal is a contemporary street mix-media artist. She combines stencil work with multiple layers and techniques in the backgrounds. It could be watercolor, acrylic paint, screen printing, collages of stamps. Or a mix of them all. Portraits are a common motif, often women, containing details connected to the person in the different layers. Her background as graphic designer and long experience of making sketches digitally, comes handy when planning compositions and different color combinations. The final artwork though, is always made by hand.
