Painting: Oil, Acrylic, Charcoal on Canvas.
Painting from the new series "The intelligence of feeling", was painted in 2016, whilst exploring my inner sense of place and space, and whilst realising that my work was displaying echos of the Chinese landscapes of the Song and Yuan dynasty which became symbolic shorthand and emblems of the Artist's character and spirit.
This new series, whilst drawing on scape, is defined by emotion stemming from feeling and considers vulnerability, difficulty, loss and the notion of sometimes feeling lost..... the human condition.
I continue to explore the balance of chance and control during the painting process using water based oil, charcoal, acrylic and water (lots of it ), hence now painting in wellington boots....
I use pallet knife, brush and sponge building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a kind of reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
I intend to create something that is ambiguous, chimerical, organic and elemental.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang.
