About the Artist

Linda Coppens

Spain

I am a Belgian abstract artist living and working in Spain.
I don't begin with an image in mind. I begin with a surface that offers possibilities rather than answers. Each painting develops through a series of decisions in which marks remain, disappear or return in unexpected ways. Instead of working towards a predetermined composition, I allow structure to emerge gradually through attention, revision and response to what is already there.
The most rewarding moment is when a painting begins to resist my intentions. From then on, every decision changes the possibilities for the next one, and I keep responding until the next step becomes inevitable.
My background in psychology continues to shape the way I think about perception. We rarely experience or remember the world as a complete picture; instead, we retain fragments, impressions and connections. That understanding influences my paintings, which unfold gradually rather than revealing themselves all at once.
My current body of work, Rhythms of the Unspoken, asks a simple question: how can structure emerge through the act of painting itself?
My work is held in private collections across Europe, Asia and the United States, and is regularly featured in curated collections on Saatchi Art.
